What is a certified translation in Canada?
A certified translation is an official translation produced by a translator who is a full member of a Canadian provincial order recognized by the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC). The translator issues a signed declaration confirming that the translation accurately reproduces the source document. This declaration, combined with the translator's stamp and accreditation number, is what gives the translation legal value before Canadian authorities. A certified translation is what IRCC, courts, universities, hospitals, and most provincial bodies require — not a notarized translation, which is a different procedure attesting to the signatory's identity rather than to the accuracy of the translation.
Who can issue an accredited translation valid in Canada?
Only translators who hold individual accreditation from a CTTIC-affiliated provincial order can issue certified translations valid across Canada. The main orders are OTTIAQ in Quebec, ATIO in Ontario, ATIA in Alberta, STIBC in British Columbia, ATIM in Manitoba, ATIS in Saskatchewan, CTINB in New Brunswick, and NSTI in Nova Scotia. Are your translations accepted by IRCC for immigration?
Yes. All our certified translations meet IRCC documentation requirements for every immigration pathway — Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, family sponsorship, study and work permits, Canadian citizenship applications. The translator's accreditation, the signed declaration of accuracy, and the visual integration of the original document satisfy the standards published in IRCC officer manuals. If a translation is ever rejected by IRCC for reasons attributable to the translation itself, we correct it free of charge or refund the order in full.
How long does it take to receive a certified translation?
Standard delivery for most document types is 48 to 72 business hours. Single-page documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, driving licences, or short police clearances are typically delivered within 48 hours. Multi-page documents (academic transcripts, medical records, contracts) take 72 hours or more depending on length and complexity. Same-day rush delivery is available on common language pairs (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin) for an urgency surcharge, useful when you have an approaching IRCC submission deadline or a closing date.
Do I need to send the physical original of my document?
No. A clear digital copy is sufficient — PDF scan, high-resolution photo, or smartphone capture. We never request the physical original. The certified translation is delivered as a signed PDF that you can upload directly to IRCC portals, send to universities, present to your insurer, or print for in-person submissions. A wet-signed paper version with the translator's original signature is available on request, mailed by Canada Post tracked mail.
