A document that decides whether you get the funding, the visa, or the property
Few documents are scrutinized more carefully by Canadian institutions than a foreign bank statement. The numbers on the page determine whether an Express Entry candidate meets the proof of funds threshold, whether an international student can be admitted to a Canadian university, whether a mortgage application proceeds to underwriting, whether a family court can adjust spousal support obligations, whether a CRA auditor can validate or challenge a tax filing. Every figure matters. Every transaction tells part of a story that the recipient needs to read with confidence in its accuracy. A certified bank statement translation is the only version that gives a Canadian decision-maker that confidence when the original is in a non-official language.
This document type is also among the most volume-intensive we handle. A six-month statement from an active checking account can run twenty pages, with hundreds of individual transactions each carrying a date, a description, a debit or credit amount, and a running balance. The translation must reproduce every line accurately, preserve exact figures in their original currency, and render transaction descriptions with terminology that Canadian recipients can interpret. Mistranslating a single transaction description or transposing a digit in a balance can derail a critical application. Our network of accredited translators with financial document experience handles this work with the precision Canadian banks, IRCC officers, university admissions offices, and the CRA expect.
Where the translated bank statement becomes mandatory
Bank statement translation requests typically follow a procedural deadline. Here are the most common contexts in which the certified version is non-negotiable:
Express Entry and proof of funds
IRCC requires applicants in the FSW and FST programs to demonstrate sufficient settlement funds through bank statements covering the past six months, with all entries translated and certified.
International student admissions
Canadian universities and colleges require translated bank statements to verify the financial capacity of international students before issuing letters of acceptance.
Mortgage and lending applications
RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, Desjardins and other Canadian lenders require translated foreign bank statements when assessing newcomer mortgage eligibility.
Family court and support proceedings
Provincial family courts use translated bank statements to determine spousal support, child support obligations, and matrimonial asset divisions involving foreign accounts.
CRA and Revenu Québec audits
Required during tax audits, voluntary disclosures, and foreign income reporting under T1135 and similar reporting obligations.
Visitor visa and super visa applications
IRCC officers assessing visitor visa, super visa, and parent and grandparent program applications require translated bank statements as proof of financial support.
Banking documents we translate
Bank documents come in many formats depending on the institution, the account type, and the period covered. Our translators recognize the conventions of major retail banks and corporate banking services around the world and handle each format accordingly:
- ✓Personal account statements, checking accounts, savings accounts, joint accounts, monthly and quarterly summaries
- ✓Investment and brokerage statements, securities accounts, mutual fund statements, dividend distributions, capital gains records
- ✓Corporate and business account statements, multi-currency accounts, merchant accounts, payroll accounts, business credit lines
- ✓Transaction history and account summaries, electronic exports, year-end summaries, certified bank letters confirming balances or transactions

Why a certified bank statement translation is more than language conversion
A bank statement is a numerical document as much as a textual one, and the certified translation must respect both dimensions with equal care. Every figure on every line must transfer accurately to the translated version. Currencies are preserved in their original denomination because conversion is the role of the recipient (an IRCC officer applying the Bank of Canada exchange rate on the assessment date, or a CRA auditor applying year-end FX conventions), not the role of the translator. Decimal conventions vary across countries, with some using a comma where Canada uses a period, but the numerical value remains the same and our translation makes the convention explicit when relevant. Transaction descriptions are rendered with terminology that maps to Canadian banking vocabulary, recognizing that an "ATM withdrawal" in Brazil, a "retrait DAB" in France, an "ATM" in India, and a "Bankomat" in Germany all describe the same operation. Our translators identify these patterns automatically and apply consistent terminology across all entries in the same document.
Elements preserved in your translated statement
A bank statement contains structured data that must be reproduced in full to be useful to Canadian recipients. Your certified translation systematically preserves:

Three steps to translate your statements
Send all required months
Upload the complete set of statements covering the period required by the recipient. For IRCC proof of funds, this is typically six consecutive months.
Confirm the recipient and deadline
IRCC, university, bank, court, CRA. Each has slightly different formatting expectations that we can apply. Tell us your submission deadline.

Frequently asked questions about bank statement translation
How many months of statements does IRCC actually require?
For Express Entry under the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programs, IRCC requires six consecutive months of bank statements showing that you have maintained the required settlement funds throughout that period. The funds must be available, unencumbered, and accessible to you. For visitor visa, super visa, and parent and grandparent applications, the required period varies by officer but typically ranges from three to six months. Submitting more than the minimum is generally not penalized and can strengthen your file.
Do you convert the amounts to Canadian dollars in the certified bank statement translation?
No. Currency conversion is not the translator's role and would introduce errors that compromise the document. The certified bank statement translation preserves every figure in its original currency exactly as printed by the bank. The Canadian recipient applies the appropriate exchange rate at the time of their assessment, using either the Bank of Canada daily rate, the year-end rate for tax purposes, or another official source depending on context. Adding conversions in the translation would create discrepancies if the recipient used a different rate.
My bank statement is 30 pages with hundreds of transactions. Is that realistic to translate?
Yes. Long bank statements are routine work for us. We assemble the relevant terminology resources for your originating bank, ensure consistent rendering of recurring transaction descriptions across all pages, and verify numerical accuracy on each line. Typical turnaround for a 30-page statement is three to five business days. Rush options reduce this when the submission deadline requires it. Pricing scales degressively because much of the terminology repeats across pages of the same statement.
Can I submit electronic bank statements downloaded from my online banking?
Yes, in most cases. IRCC, Canadian universities, and most Canadian institutions accept PDF statements downloaded directly from your online banking portal, especially when they bear the bank's logo, the account holder name, the statement period, and visible authentication elements. Some recipients (notably for high-value mortgage applications) may also request a stamped statement from a bank officer. Our translation works equally well from either source format. Tell us which type of statement you have and we proceed accordingly.
My statement shows transactions in a currency I no longer use. Is that a problem?
No. Many newcomers to Canada have accounts that operated in their home currency, in USD, or in a regional currency. The certified bank statement translation preserves the original currency exactly. Canadian institutions are familiar with multi-currency statements and understand that the holder may have been resident in another jurisdiction during the statement period. What matters is that the statement clearly shows the holder, the period, and the balances. Conversion happens at the assessment stage, not in the translation.
What confidentiality and security measures apply to my financial information?
All translators with access to your bank statement sign individual non-disclosure agreements covering personal and financial data. Source files are exchanged through encrypted channels and stored on encrypted servers. Statements are deleted from active systems 30 days after delivery unless you request otherwise. For corporate and law firm clients, we sign client-specific NDAs aligned with your engagement letter standards. We do not subcontract to offshore providers, do not analyze account data for any purpose other than translation, and do not retain copies of source documents beyond contractual deletion timelines.
