Certified academic transcript translation in Canada

The document that opens or closes academic doors in Canada

Your academic transcript is the document Canadian institutions read most carefully when assessing what you have studied and how well you performed. It is not enough that the diploma confirms you graduated. The transcript shows every course you took, every credit you earned, every mark you received, semester by semester, year by year. This level of detail is what allows a Canadian university admissions officer to evaluate your readiness for a graduate program, what allows WES or IQAS to convert your credentials into Canadian equivalents, and what allows a provincial professional order to determine which licensing exams you must take.

Translating a transcript is therefore a technical exercise as much as a linguistic one. Course names must be rendered with terminology that Canadian academics recognize. Credit hours must be expressed in a way that supports later conversion without altering the original values. Grading scales must be preserved exactly as they appear in the source, with explanatory notes when the local system differs significantly from Canadian conventions. A poor translation can cost an applicant admission, credits, or years of professional recognition. A precise one creates a clean evaluation file that moves quickly through institutional review.

What applicants ask before ordering a transcript translation

Transcript translation is rarely a casual purchase. Most clients arrive with the same six questions in mind, so we have organized them here for quick answers:

How is pricing calculated?

Per page, with degressive rates for multi-page transcripts. A four-year bachelor's transcript typically falls into a clear bundle price.

How long does it take?

Standard delivery is 72 hours for transcripts up to 10 pages. Longer files or rare language pairs may need slightly more time.

Is WES the only thing that matters?

No. WES is the most popular, but IQAS, ICES, ICAS, CES Toronto, and university registrars all accept our certifications.

Can I send a regular scan?

For the translation itself, yes. WES separately requires the institution to send the original in a sealed envelope, but that is independent of our work.

Does it work for IRCC and ECA?

Yes. The same translation file you submit to WES or IQAS will satisfy IRCC for your Express Entry or PR application.

Who actually does the translation?

A human translator accredited by a Canadian provincial order, with experience in academic and educational terminology. No machine output.

Academic records we translate every day

Academic transcripts come in many shapes depending on the country, the level of study, and the era. The term itself covers a wide range of related documents that institutions issue under different names. Whatever the local terminology, the function is the same and our translators handle them all:

  • University transcripts for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs, including PhD coursework records and qualifying exam results
  • Marks sheets and grade reports issued semester by semester or year by year in South Asian and African systems
  • Statement of marks and consolidated mark sheets used by Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Sri Lankan universities
  • High school and secondary transcripts for graduate-level credential evaluations and English-language postsecondary admissions

Every element preserved in your translated transcript

A transcript translation that loses any element of the source becomes a translation problem in the eyes of an evaluator. Our certified deliverable preserves the full structure:

Institution identification, official name, address, accreditation status, registrar's signature, and seal.
Student information, full name, student ID, date of birth, program of study, dates of attendance, degree awarded.
Course-by-course listing, with original course codes, course titles translated into English, credits, semester, and grades.
Original grading scale preserved, with an explanatory note when the scale differs significantly from Canadian conventions.
Cumulative figures, GPA, average, class rank, distinctions, honors, awards, and any final evaluation statement.
Authentication elements, registrar stamps, embossed seals, QR codes, security paper indicators, and barcode descriptions.

Academic transcript translation. FAQ

Will WES accept the translation you provide?

Yes. WES requires translations to come from a certified translator working independently from the applicant. Our network is built from translators who hold personal accreditation with a Canadian provincial order, which satisfies this requirement. Note that WES has two separate verification steps: the translation itself, which we handle, and the source document verification, which requires your university to send the original transcript directly to WES in a sealed envelope. The two steps are independent.

Should I order the diploma and the transcript together?

For most credential evaluations and university applications, yes. The diploma proves you obtained the degree, the transcript shows what you studied and how well. Both are typically required together. Ordering them as a bundle reduces the per-document price and ensures terminology consistency between the two translations, which evaluators appreciate.

My transcript uses a grading scale that does not exist in Canada. Do you convert it?

No, and this is intentional. Grade conversion is the job of credential evaluators like WES, IQAS, and IRCC-approved bodies. They have established conversion methodologies that vary by source country and degree level. Our certified translation preserves the original grading scale exactly and adds a brief explanatory note when the scale differs from Canadian conventions. The conversion happens downstream, by the right authority.

My university sends transcripts in PDF directly to WES. Should I still order a translation?

If your transcript is in English or French, no, you do not need a translation. If your transcript is in any other language, yes, because WES will not translate it for you. Your university sends the original document, your certified translation accompanies it, and WES uses both to perform the evaluation. Order the translation as soon as you have access to a digital copy, without waiting for WES to confirm receipt.

My transcript has course codes only, no course titles. Is that a problem?

It can be. Some universities issue compact transcripts that list only course codes (for example, CHM301, MAT204) without the corresponding course titles. Canadian evaluators struggle to assess what you actually studied from codes alone. We can translate the document as it is, but we recommend requesting a detailed transcript or course descriptions from your institution to accompany it. Otherwise, the credential evaluation may come back as inconclusive.

Do you handle transcripts in non-Latin scripts?

Yes. Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Tamil, Greek, Hebrew, Farsi, Thai, Vietnamese, and many more. Names are transliterated to match your passport and other Canadian documents to avoid identity discrepancies during evaluation. Course titles are rendered with terminology that Canadian academic evaluators recognize.
