Documents from the Netherlands, Belgium, and beyond

Dutch is the official language of the Netherlands and one of the official languages of Belgium, where it is often referred to as Flemish. It is also spoken in Suriname and in several Caribbean territories such as Aruba and Curaçao. When records issued in any of these places need to be presented to a Canadian institution, a certified translation is almost always required so the receiving office can read and trust the content.

Our translators handle the formal language found in civil records, court rulings, and academic paperwork, and they reproduce stamps, seals, and signatures as notes so nothing on the original goes unaccounted for in the final document.

When a certified Dutch translation is needed

Newcomers from the Netherlands or Belgium are usually asked for certified translations of their personal records as part of an immigration or settlement file. Students applying to a Canadian college present translated diplomas and transcripts, while professionals seeking a licence submit translated qualifications to the relevant regulator.

Couples, families, and businesses also rely on certified translations for marriage records, court documents, and corporate filings that originated in a Dutch speaking country. In each case the translation carries a statement confirming that it is a true and accurate rendering of the source.

Which type of certification do you need?

The correct format depends on the office that will receive your document. We offer both options and will confirm the right one for your situation before we begin.

Agency certification with a Certificate of Accuracy

Each translation is issued with a signed and stamped Certificate of Accuracy on our letterhead. This format is accepted by most organizations, including Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, many universities, and a wide range of employers.

Certification by an accredited translator

Some institutions require a translation prepared by a translator who is a member of a recognized professional association, such as OTTIAQ in Quebec. When your destination calls for this, we arrange certification by an accredited translator.

If you are unsure which one applies, send us the name of the organization or the instructions you received, and we will tell you exactly what is needed. You can learn more about our memberships and the bodies we work with on our accreditation and memberships page.

Dutch and Flemish handled with care

Dutch in Belgium carries vocabulary and administrative wording that differ from the language used in the Netherlands. Place names, government office titles, and certificate formats are not always the same across the two countries, and an experienced translator accounts for these differences so the result reads naturally and matches the source.

We review where your document was issued before assigning it, which keeps regional terms accurate and avoids confusion for the Canadian office reading the translation.

Common questions

How long does a certified Dutch translation take?

A single page record such as a birth certificate is usually ready within one to two business days. Larger files take longer, and we confirm a firm date once we see the document.

Do you translate from English into Dutch as well?

Yes. We translate in both directions, so Canadian documents can be prepared in Dutch for use in the Netherlands, Belgium, or other Dutch speaking jurisdictions.

Will the translation be accepted by IRCC?

Our certified translations are prepared to meet the standards set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Each one includes a Certificate of Accuracy that confirms the translation is complete and faithful to the original.

Do you need the original document?

A clear scan or photo is enough to begin. We work from the copy you send and certify the translation against it.
