An apostille certifies that a public document is genuine so it can be used in another Hague Convention country. It does not translate the document. When the destination needs the content in another language, a certified translation is added, and that is the part we handle.
What an apostille is, and where translation fits
An apostille is a standardized certificate that confirms the origin of a public document, the signature it carries, and the authority of the official who signed it. Since Canada joined the Hague Apostille Convention, a single apostille replaces the older consular legalization process for documents sent to member countries.
An apostille says nothing about language. If your document is in English or French and the receiving country accepts that language, no translation is needed. When the destination asks for it in another language, a certified translation is prepared and submitted with the document. We produce that translation and reproduce the stamps, seals, and the apostille itself, so the foreign office receives a faithful copy of the complete record.
How apostilles work in Canada
Canada has issued apostilles since January 11, 2024. Federal documents, along with documents from Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and the territories, are apostilled by Global Affairs Canada. Documents notarized in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, or Saskatchewan are apostilled by that province's own competent authority.
The apostille is issued by the government office, not by a translation agency. Our role is the certified translation the authority or the destination country requires, prepared before or after the apostille depending on what each office asks for. Do you issue apostilles?
No. Apostilles are issued by Global Affairs Canada and designated provincial authorities. We prepare the certified translation the apostille process requires.
Should I translate before or after the apostille?
It depends on the destination country and the authority. Some apostille the original first and then ask for a translation of both, and others want the translation in place beforehand. We confirm the right order for your case.
Do I need a translation if my document is already in English?
Only if the receiving country needs it in another language. When English or French is accepted, no translation is required.
Which countries accept an apostille?
Any of the 125+ member countries of the Hague Apostille Convention. For countries outside the Convention, consular legalization may still apply.
